The first scarecrows festival was held back in 1994. With such an enthusiastic response from the local villagers more scarecrows started to appear every year, and the festival now plays a vital role in the community. Each year it grows from strength-to-strength welcoming thousands of visitors year upon year. The high standard of the creations and characters are usually easy to identify by the young and old, following the official trial and clues along the way.
We continue our journey to Grassington, picture a bustling cobbled market square, fringed by shops offering everything from practical essentials to totally tempting luxuries. Art galleries, crafts and open studios complete the Yorkshire shopping experience. Add other attractions such as friendly cafés, restaurants and cosy hotels, all set against a backdrop of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. That’s Grassington, the small market town that feels like a village.
